Orlando Junior Academy offers an exciting learning environment for Pre-K through eighth grade. Established in 1906, it has a long history of providing quality christian education. Strong leadership has helped OJA to grow into a vibrant, Christ-centered school where children develop in body, mind and spirit. It's a place where Christian teachers use the Bible as the key to unlock the secrets of learning.
From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents,
“You can’t go to the next grade until you eat the watermelon”, one middle schooler told their friend. I overheard this comment on the last day of school as the students were enjoying the traditional watermelon feed. So, they ate as much as they wanted, enjoyed their friends, gave a cheer and school was over for 2008-2009.
Now the halls and classrooms of OJA are quiet again for the summer break. At times I hear voices of the Pre-K summer camp students, otherwise it is only the ringing of the phone, or the burbling fountain outside my window that breaks the silence. I much prefer having everyone here, busy with their learning and friends and school activities.
Improvements This break gives us time to prepare for the next school year and make some improvements. This summer we will have a new phone system installed with an answering machine! Great improvement! Work has already begun on the AC system and the roofs will have work done on them.
Transition In July the new Principal, Nicole Agbonkhese, will arrive. My last day is June 12. Erika Rivera, Vice Principal, will cover the two weeks before Nicole arrives.
The past 5-6 years I’ve spent here (the first few years as Curriculum Specialist, the past two as principal) have been full of challenges, fun, and satisfying work with the teachers and students. They are dear to me. I believe in OJA and its mission to educate students well for our world and eternity and believe it will prosper. Thank you to all of you who have given me and OJA your support through the years. Many of you have given unselfishly of yourselves and/or your finances to make OJA the stimulating, safe, nurturing school that it is. You are appreciated so much!
You and the students and teachers of OJA will be kept in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Beth Bursey
Principal
